Standards & Best Practices For Tools of History
Developing an online collection of cultural heritage materials demands a set of standards regarding metadata, selection criteria, and imaging guidelines. The guidelines below have been carefully developed by the South Central Regional Library Council Digitization Advisory Committee.
Accessibility across the collections in Tools of History is only possible when they share a metadata template and adhere to a common vocabulary. The Tools of History Metadata Standard supports this process and is based on the Dublin Core of Elements. Our Selection criteria facilitates developing collections that reflect both regional history and are of interest to the public. Our Digital Imaging and Scanning guidelines should be used when planning your participation in SCRLC's Tools of History online digitizing program using ContentDM.
